I like so many was questioning what the Braves were doing this offseason. The lack of activity was maddening. Except for a trade for C/OF/1B Ryan Doumit and two signings, one for SP Gavin Floyd and one for flame throwing RP Luiz Vasquez, the Braves decided that it was more important to extend their young core and let them grow together for the next several years and see what happens.

It began with a modest 2-year extension for Jason Heyward and then exploded into Freddie’s mega 8-year deal. Then Julio Teheran gets a 6-year deal and Craig Kimbrel gets extend for 4 years.
I was excited to see that the Braves valued their own over guys past their prime in free agency. I think they got bargains with every deal provided the players stay healthy but that is the same with every contract.

I think the Braves have a very young, and very good nucleus that if continues to improve will be fighting for the NL East crown and possibly the World Series for the next several years.

Next on the docket for extension consideration is SS Andrelton Simmons, lefty SP Mike Minor and righty SP Kris Medlen.
